
How to Brew the Perfect Espresso at Home
You will need a:
Timer
Scale
Start with an approximate grind size that achieves the below instructions between 30-40 seconds.
- Grind and measure the weight of coffee in the basket and handle. Use the amount set by the machine or recommended by the manufacturer.
- Brew and extract double the amount of coffee from Step 1 into the cup. Place the cup on the scale while brewing and stop just in time to achieve double the weight of coffee in the basket.
- Make a note of the exact weight and brew time, then rate how enjoyable it is on a scale of 1-3 with 1 = Not enjoyable, 2 = Not bad or 3 = Yummy

Find the Best Grind Size
Repeat the steps above three times, varying the grind size by 1 degree each time. Record the weight, brew time, and enjoyment score for each attempt.

Find the Best Weight of Brewed Coffee
- Use your favorite grind size from the previous steps.
- Repeat Steps 1-3, varying the brewed weight of coffee by 1g each time.
- Record the weight, brew time, and enjoyment score for each attempt.
